Photo Essay

November 8, 2020 by Simon Robinson Leave a Comment

You can always find something to photograph. And I think you can generally make a few shots that other people will enjoy. I walked around a park for an hour with a 150-600 mm lens and these are some of the shots.

Really!

November 6, 2020 by Simon Robinson Leave a Comment

Hanlon’s razor suggests that we ‘never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity’.

I am pleased that some of my correspondents suggest I read articles like this one by John Crace in the Guardian. I am even more pleased to be have been able to live in societies where such truths can be published. Reading words such as ‘lies’ and ‘lying’ in the media reminds me of the privilege I enjoy living in progressive societies that can rely on the protection of punitive defamation laws.

One Walk, Several Views

November 3, 2020 by Simon Robinson Leave a Comment

South includes the sun belt and the demographically changed golf resort called Arizona. And way out West, California is a dominant state that could have the 5th biggest economy in the world, were the most populous state to secede. That state economy is bigger than India’s and it’s running a citizen for VPotus. A citizen with ancestral roots in India.

Passing Greats

November 2, 2020 by Simon Robinson Leave a Comment

There’s a maple tree by our front door. It goes orange most years and this year, it’s more orange than it has been for years. I thought I’d collect a leaf a day in November and build a picture if I keep adding them, one leaf at time, to a pile on the glass of my desktop scanner.

Halloween Rainbow

October 31, 2020 by Simon Robinson Leave a Comment

I was sitting by a window, rereading some of the short chapters that make The Hidden Life of Trees so easy to follow and enjoy. It had been raining hard throughout the night. The term ‘pelting’ had come to my sleepy mind as gusts of wind drove the raindrops onto our windows, sounding like the huge hail that sometimes makes us doubt the strength of glass.
