Ants

March 28, 2021 by Simon Robinson Leave a Comment

Have you ever heard of Robert Gregg of Colorado? He’s connected to the eighth wonder of the world, in St Petersburg, in my mind at least.

Gregg died in 1991, famous among ant lovers for having written the seminal book The Ants of Colorado published in 1963. He identified and was allowed name many ant species in Colorado during his decades of searching them out.

Trees, Power and Ship

March 16, 2021 by Simon Robinson Leave a Comment

I was sent home by the police recently. I was stopped at a road block and in truth, I couldn’t justify my travel as essential. I explained that I was less than 5 km from home and that I was headed for a walk in order to take photographs of trees for an upcoming book. ‘That’s hardly essential work’ he said while his colleague was clearly issuing a fine to the driver ahead of me.

‘I’ll go home then’

Smart Phone Photography

March 14, 2021 by Simon Robinson Leave a Comment

We all know that the photographic capabilities of smartphones are incredible. The miniature camera(s) on the digital phone are both a huge benefit and a major influence on the purchase decisions. They are a vital selling point.

Stardate 74628 or 47634.44

Everyone’s calendars are relative to a starting point. It’s been a year since I started this journal so it’s Journalday 365 today. Trekkies might date it as 74628 despite the fictitious origins. Then again, Star Trek on TV (74628) isn’t on the same calendar as the game played as Star Trek Online (47634). Parallax takes many forms.

Two garden shots from this morning’s search for magnolias.

Garden Photozine

February 20, 2021 by Simon Robinson Leave a Comment

A Chinese proverb says all gardeners know better than other gardeners.

All I know is that gardens are sources of wonderment in all seasons, sites and scales.

The Muglins Issued

February 12, 2021 by Simon Robinson 4 Comments

It’s a bit late for January but the production issues have been overcome and we mailed out the first issue of the photozine today. The free subscription list of thirty-nine is full but that doesn’t mean a request for a free copy will be ignored in these first few issues.

The Muglins as I saw it yesterday, long after the first photozine went to press.
