Highly Composite Journal

February 23, 2021 by Simon Robinson Leave a Comment

Posting every day has become a ritual though not on a schedule like breakfast or bedtime. It’s something I do in between those two daily milestones and have been doing for almost a year. I really would have preferred to walk from a milestone in Manchester to end at the start of the Via Appia in Rome. More significantly, like you, I wish none of us were in the middle of a two year pandemic.

Inár gcroíthe go deo.

Kenning

We went to see The Cook, the Thief, His Wife & Her Lover in The Landmark Theatre in Greenway Plaza in Houston. That was in 1989 and the Greenway Plaza was then the home of the NBA’s Houston Rockets. The cinema was more arthouse than mainstream which explains how we saw a Greenaway movie in a Greenway cinema in a place then better known for basketball. Romantic crime drama with cannibalism – just the thing for a brief respite from parenting when we parked our kids with the 5Es for a few hours (a great family with five kids whose names started with E).

The tower, the bathers, the isle and the freighter.
Yesterday, James Joyce’s Martello Tower, the Forty Foot bathers, the Muglins and passing freighter.

Books Leaving, Arriving

February 9, 2021 by Simon Robinson Leave a Comment

It was great to see a book leave the house but shortly afterwards, the doorbell didn’t ring. It’s been disconnected for several weeks pending replacement that is suffering from Brexit. Our priorities are maintained, the bell may be delayed but our book supply is not.

Diary: Burma Story Two

January 29, 2021 by Simon Robinson Leave a Comment

I found an old diary that’s reminded me of many experiences in Burma. Among the notes, I found pointers to three enduring stories not yet retold in these journals.
