Today’s journal is about one thing. Or maybe thirty.
I tried to collect leaves and scan them as they piled on the scanner. I didn’t take into account that their decay would continue and from the point of making an animation in the future, they’d move as they dewatered.
So I tried to fail better this time. You can see in the animation that laying one dried leaf on another distorts the positions of all that went before. I realised that this adds a small dynamic shift to each frame that in turn adds a touch of movement that keeps it interesting.
Next time I fail, I will have been trying to make the picture tell a story. I’m thinking of a rotating sunburst. I’m hoping that ‘next time’ will be this year, after the rain stops. Assuming, of course, that the gale force winds forecast for tonight don’t strip the tree bare and blow my project into the future.
